1880s Leon Gariod Paris Belle Epoque Enamel Gold Link Necklace and Locket
A rare relic from France's 3rd Republic Belle Epoque Era, an 18K gold & fine enamel signed Leon Gariod of Paris sentimental double link necklace and pierced pendant / locket. The piece is in phenomenal condition, done in a matte / burnished finish and ready to wear. It is hallmarked and signed on the clasp and the locket with the French 18K gold eagle head and also has the makers mark for Leon Gariod on the clasp. The entire piece was hand made possibly by famed French jeweler Lucien Gautrait who worked for Leon Gariod and only occasionally signed his work. The piece was made as a sentimental locket to hold a lock of a lover's hair. It does not appear to ever have been used for this purpose. It still has the original glass on the back and powder blue silk. The necklace is in amazing condition without a single flaw. It is all original, there is no damage or repairs. All of fine enamel work is still present, the clasp still works wonderfully. It is almost as though the piece sat in the jewelers safe until now. The piece measures about 25" long when unclasped. The gold links measure about .70" wide by .45" The locket measures about 1.55" in diameter. The entire piece weighs a total of 1.65 Troy Oz.
